Absolutely incredible, the day that all the fans we were waiting for!! Yesterday was one of the most important day for the band. Their Debut Show at Birdy's Bar was a complete marvel! Noctura played almost all the songs from the album, and they did a Cover of Chop Suey by System Of A Down for the encore. Myles's energy, Jeremy's headbanging and incredible riffs, Kris's power, Bubba's talent and Mandy's amazing, warm and mindblowing voice made 25th June's night an amazing and unforgettable night!
A day after the show, Noctura left a message on their Facebook page:

"Thanks to everyone who came out to our debut show last night! You guys are such good sports for being so amazingly supportive while we tested the waters - we'll try to rock it even harder for you next time. :) Also, thanks to EVERYONE who was a part of making the show happen! You're our heroes."

An Album Review: Noctura’s “Surrender the Sun”

"It’s one thing for a band to generate buzz, but before they even make their first public appearance?
A feat like that is almost unheard of, and leave it to the Indy Music Scene for giving us a band that did just that.
Noctura has been in the works for a few years now. Through hard work, dedication and utilizing the social networks, they’ve built a loyal fan base around the world, had two of their songs on heavy rotation on X103, saw their debut show sold out in under three days, and hooked up with esteemed producer Dan Certa (The Fray, Seether, We Are the Fallen, etc.) to release their much-anticipated debut “Surrender the Sun.”
The first album is always crucial in a band’s journey. For the rest of their career, they’ll be judged by what they were able to do with that first effort, for better or worse.
So how does Noctura’s first impression fare?
As fairly or unfairly as this will sound, this album will draw many comparisons to Evanescence, but make no mistake, after hearing what it is they have to offer, you will never mistake the two again.
The album opens with the song “Fade,” which should sound very familiar to those who listen to X103 on a regular basis. With this, you get a taste of what’s to come for the next nine tracks: haunting strings, metal-influenced guitars and drums, and of course, frontwoman Mandy Suiter’s Amy Lee-esque vocals. For their first effort, songs range from those on the more metal end (“One More Day,” “Everything,” “Undone”) to the haunting (“Don’t Save Me,” “Bleeding For Truth,” and their piano ballad “Forever Lullaby.”)
As always, there’s always a standout track. I almost hate to do this, but I have to award this honor to their cover song.
Now you all know the song “Gone Away” by The Offspring, an energetic yet somber anthem for anyone who has ever experienced loss. For this rendition, Noctura strips away the drums and distorted guitars in favor of a piano and a backing string section for an end result that can’t be described as anything but hauntingly beautiful. Cover songs are very “hit or miss,” and in this case, this one is spot on.
Final verdict?
Will they draw comparisons to Evanescence? Definitely, especially with songs like “Gone Away” bringing up thoughts of “My Immortal” or “Don’t Save Me” sounding like something ripped straight from the b-sides of “Fallen.” Yet despite the similarities–which there will be a few considering Suiter lists them as an early influence–this is not a band interested in becoming the next Evanescence. Rather, they’re more focused on carving their own niche and becoming the first Noctura. With this album, they’re well on their way. Expect big things from them in the future."

"They’ve garnered a loyal following, had their debut show sell out in less than three days, been in heavy rotation on the radio, and they’ve got a much-anticipated album due out later this month.
All in all, not bad for a band that has yet to make their debut to the public.
Now if you’re anything like me, you were one day flipping through the radio stations in search of something to listen to, when suddenly you were drawn to the sounds of a female-fronted rock band utilizing haunting strings, metal-influenced guitars, and the kind of vocals that can tie every element together perfectly.
Only this is no Amy Lee side project. Instead, this is a rock outfit called Noctura, hailing from right in our own back yard in Indianapolis.
It’s one thing for a band to generate a lot of buzz, but for one that has yet to play their first show is almost unheard of (especially considering their full lineup wasn’t even solidified until just recently). With their debut album “Surrender the Sun” due out June 21 and their sold out show June 25, it’s time to learn more about this little gem from the Indy Music Scene. So I contacted frontwoman Mandy Suiter via email to talk new album, working with esteemed producer Dan Certa, their fans, and more:

-Tell me about Noctura
Well, Jeremy and I met when we started playing in a band together a few years ago. That group of guys didn’t end up sticking, but he and I realized pretty early on that we had a lot of the same ideas and ambitions. We had the advantage of Jeremy having experience as both a drummer and guitarist, and I was doing a lot of songwriting on piano, so we were able to crank out a lot of basic ideas that way. I devoted a lot of time to figuring out how to make bare-bone recordings of the songs we came up with, which was especially cool for me because until then I’m not sure I’d ever even seen a guitar amp before.

-You’re getting ready for your debut at the end of June?
Yes! There are all kinds of crazy last minute details going on. I kinda feel like we’re planning a wedding.

-How has it been getting ready for everything (debut show, album, all the other responsibilities that come along with being in a band, etc.)
It’s all been a fun, crazy, sometimes stressful, time-consuming learning experience. But mostly fun. An insane amount of work has gone into all of this, but people really seem to appreciate it so far, so that tells me we’re doing the right thing. We’ve definitely taken a “do-it-yourself” approach on a lot of things, which has made for a lot of hard work, but it’s also that much more rewarding when something cool happens as a result.

-What can you say about the album?
The album is a huge milestone for us, and it’s something we’re really proud to finally have finished. When Jeremy and I first started with all this in 2007/2008, we had this big idea of what we were setting out to do, but had a hard time finding other musicians with the same ideas and goals. Plus, I mean, beyond our vision, we didn’t really have a lot to offer – not a lot of experience, no fancy equipment, nothing to really validate us as musicians. So when we couldn’t find anyone to take that leap of faith with us, we just decided to do it ourselves.

-You managed to hook up with Dan Certa (Seether, We Are The Fallen, The Fray, and more) to produce it?
Yeah, we’d taken a couple tracks to a local studio in 2009 I think, and had an awesome time recording them and hearing something we wrote sound like real, polished songs for the first time. It was a great experience and it actually taught us a lot about the recording process and how to do things properly (big thanks to Corey Miller for that). But, you know, we have so many different elements in our songs and we were so meticulous about getting things just right, it ended up burning through all our finances pretty fast. We’re broke fools and didn’t really have any other options, so we kind of reverted back to writing and recording home demos. That’s around the time we wrote Don’t Save Me, and we really liked the song and thought it could be cool, but didn’t have a way to do it right and make it sound the way we wanted it to. I was familiar with Dan’s work and just approached him about working on the track with us, not really expecting to hear back. But as it turns out, he’s an amazingly nice guy and he’d actually heard about us already from some fan sites of another band he was working with at the time. So yeah, he worked on that track with us and then graciously agreed to help us make our album a reality.

-I hear you almost every time I turn on X103, your show sold out in three days, you’ve built a following on the social networks. How can you best describe all of this?
Well I think we’ve been fortunate in a lot of ways, but I also think a lot of this stuff is a result of the time we’ve put in building it up. Since it was just Jeremy and I for a long time, we didn’t really have the option of taking the traditional band approach, playing shows and all that. Since I’m kind of a techie nerd anyway, we focused on the area we thought we could do the most with, which was online/social networking. Once we had some decent sounding recordings, we built a presence on as many sites as we could to get people to listen. There was a certain point where it kind of shifted and things actually started being more fan-driven, which was weird, and really cool. There were some fans that really connected with our music and believed in us, and they started devoting a lot of their time to helping spread the word about us and getting people to check us out. Our writing was improving, too. Once we shared Don’t Save Me with everyone, that’s kind of when things seemed to change. X103 took a liking to the track and next thing we knew they were spinning it in regular rotation. I think part of it too is that we really, really appreciate our fans and try to make sure they know that. We saw first hand the difference it made when fans sort of took the wheel and started making things happen for us, so naturally we are just immensely grateful for every little thing any of our fans do to help us out. We love talking to everyone and have made a lot of new friends that way. There are actually fans flying & driving in from other parts of the country for our show, which is crazy and awesome and we can’t wait to meet all these guys in person.

-Musical influences?
Well I think the most obvious influence is Evanescence – they sort of carved out a genre when they came into the picture. There weren’t any other U.S. bands, at least not that I know of, that had combined those orchestral and rock elements with female vocals and still carried that commercial appeal. I tend to think of it in the same way that bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam did the grunge thing, then a lot of other grunge bands started popping up. Then you’ve got those bands like Nickelback that started a big trend of scratchy male vocal alternative bands, and so on and so forth. I remember hearing Evanescence for the first time and being so excited to hear that combination of strings and modern rock, which was cool on its own, but then hearing a chick singing on top of it who sounded like she could be a soprano choir nerd like me – I was sold. So a lot of our earlier stuff has a lot of that Evanescence feel to it. But as we’ve gotten more experience with writing, I feel like we’re starting to develop a different sound from our older stuff, like incorporating some more guitar work with harmonies, things like that. We draw inspiration from a lot of bands – we’re big Avenged Sevenfold fans, Jeremy’s into a lot of old school metal, and now that we’ve brought on some other band mates, I’m sure it’ll add a lot of new flavor to the mix when we write more songs.

-Will it be more of like a sigh of relief when the album is done and the Birdy’s show is over, or more like an “okay that’s done, now let’s move on to the next thing?”
It’s definitely a sigh of relief now that the album’s done, but at the same time it kinda feels like there are already new things to focus on, or things we’ve had to put on the back burner while we finished the album. I can only assume the same thing will happen with the Birdy’s show. It’ll be a huge relief when it’s over since so much planning and preparation has gone into it, but it’s also sort of the changing point for us where we transition into a band that plays live shows instead of being a two-person studio band. We’ve never really had any times where we’ve been stagnant since starting all this. There are so many different facets to being in a band, like learning new ways to promote yourself, networking with new people, exploring different opportunities – it seems like there’s always something new to work on or learn about, so that’s probably what we’ll try to do.

-Future plans? (goals you’d like to achieve)
We haven’t set any specific goals per se, but we definitely want to keep raising the bar for ourselves and aiming as high as we can when we set out to do things, whether it’s writing and recording songs, booking shows, or what have you."

Scrapbook Project Deadline

Noctura's First Show!

Yes! The big news are here! The date for Noctura's first show is official!
The first show is going to be on June 25th at "Bridy's Bar & Grill" , with special guest like Dead Man's Grill, Pragmatic and Ritual. The door opens at 7:30 PM and the concert starts at 8:30 PM.
TICKETS: Will be on sale on Friday 03/11/11. Will be available through TicketMaster, at Birdy's box office or simply going into Noctura's Website. If you buy tickets at Noctura's website, you will get to download their new song "Fade" for FREE!

Hey, everyone! We are very excited to tell you about the project we have been working on. As we all know, Noctura has AWESOME fans all over the world. All you have to do is write a letter to Mandy and Jeremy, and we will print them all off and put them into a scrapbook and give it to them at some point in the future. :) This could possibly be at their first concert, but no one knows anything about that yet, so we are telling you about this project early so that we have time to get everything together.

It might be a fan letter, artwork, poetry, lyrics, etc. You might tell them how you found out about them, what your favorite song is, what songs you’d like to see them cover, where you would like to see them tour, etc. It’s up to you. The guys have talked about the album release and so much more on their blog. Here we go with the post

" We’ve been a little quieter than usual over the past couple of weeks, due in part to the Thanksgiving Holiday, but also because we’ve been busy working on finishing up the album. We are tremendously excited about all our new songs and really hope you guys will be, too.
So the good news is that we should have the album done by the end of the year! The not-as-good news is it doesn’t look like we’re going to be able to actually release it until early next year. :(

We'd like to blame both an underestimate of production & distribution time and our perfectionist tendencies for this. We promise to let everyone know when we have a release date. We can tell you that the album officially has a title and some pretty snazzy art in the works – and as soon as it’s finished, we’ll post it for you guys to see.
In the meantime… we’ve gotten a lot of questions lately about what happened to the old rough demo tracks & covers we used to have posted on various sites – we took most of them down since we’ve evolved so much since then (read: gone from preschool to middle school level on our recording comprehension). However, for anyone interested, our trusty fans over at ForYouNoctura.com have compiled these tracks and they’re all free downloads!

"Ode to X103"

The guys have said some nice words about X103 in their Blog :

"We'd like to take a minute to make sure everyone knows just how awesome our Indy rock station X103 really is.

They're owned by Clear Channel Communications (the largest radio station group owner in the U.S.), so they're one of the "big guys" who are under a fair amount of pressure to keep the ratings up by sticking to mainstream alt. rock. Even with this directive, they've been featuring a weekly show (The Indy X-Files) to highlight local artists for over two years. Of course, X103 isn't the only station who does this, but we'd wager that their staff is one of the most engaged when it comes to working with local acts.

Since the inception of the Indy X-Files, the station has become awesomely involved with the local music scene - they've taken the time to get to know the artists, gone to see live shows, and even sponsored a live showcase of local bands every week at the Rock House Cafe (along with a bunch of other local events/battles).

Our song "Don't Save Me" has been in regular rotation for a few months, which means they're mixing it in throughout the day between the songs all the kiddies are crazy about right now. They're doing something similar for the band Kramus out of Connersville (awesome group of guys with great tunes - you should check them out if you haven't already).

The coolest part about this is that the folks at X103 like our music and think their listeners will, too. It seems like they've been right so far - we're absolutely stoked that so many of you guys discovered us on the radio and dig us enough to send messages & comments and tell your friends. We don't know any of the station staff personally, we've yet to play our first show, and we're rarely out and about in the "scene" (we're not mysterious on purpose - we just have crazy schedules!). In fact, we've heard that some of the DJs might even be wondering if we're secretly robot cyborgs (we're talkin' to you, Deuce... ;) ).

But X103, in their unparalleled coolness, thinks all the work we've put into writing & recording is worthy of some airtime, and we're very grateful for that. They continue to support local artists in a badass way, despite the fact that their lives would probably be a LOT easier if they did what most other stations do and just shunned the homegrown rock all together. So tell them how much you think they rule for giving so much love to local music. If you see them out and about, give them a big ol' hug. Listen Sunday nights from 7-8pm to hear some tasty Indy jams. And check out the live shows happening all across the state - which, btw, should include ours at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Mandy has had an interesting interview withZack Daggy at "Artist Spotlight" section on Mothpod. The Mothpod, is a site that shows and share Indiana's music.
Mandy talked about her influences, the new album, and a lot of more stuff!

Zack Daggy: How long have you been singing?

Mandy Suiter of Noctura: I sang in choir through elementary/middle/high school and always loved it, but was very shy. It was a few years later before I actually started singing solo in front of other living, breathing humans.

ZD: Who are your influences?

MS: Well, an obvious influence is Amy Lee of Evanescence. When they appeared on the map, it was great because it was the first time I’d heard someone with a singing style freakishly similar to mine singing my favorite kind of music. Other than that, I guess I’ve been inspired by bits and pieces of several other artists over the years, like Fiona Apple, Christina Aguilera, Sarah McLachlan… Then of course there are some newer singers who rock my face off, like Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) and Carly Smithson (We Are The Fallen).

ZD: What are the origins of Noctura?

MS: I met Jeremy when I came to sing in a band he’d been playing in. He and I clicked quite well musically, and while that band setup didn’t stick, Noctura was born and the two of us have been plugging away ever since.

ZD: How would you describe Noctura’s style?

MS: I never know quite how to answer this question, but I’m going to say it’s like Evanescence, Within Temptation, and Breaking Benjamin had a threesome.

ZD: What was the first song that you recorded, and what was that experience like?

MS: The first song we recorded was “Fall To Pieces,” which came together in a totally bizarre way since we’d never written music together before. I’d written the shell of the song on piano, but wanted to hear basic guitar and drum tracks to finish writing, so Jeremy actually played drums and guitars to a song he’d never heard before. I gave him the chords and let him know which parts were soft vs. heavy, and then took those tracks home and finished writing the song. We’ve never done a “new and improved” version of that song since then, but we might at some point.

ZD: What is the song writing process like for you?

MS: I have a love/hate relationship with the song writing process. Overall, I love it… but I will admit there are sporadic moments when I hit a writer’s block and just want to bang my head against the wall. Also, the fact that there are only two of us is both a blessing and a curse… on the plus side, we have a total routine going that’s comfortable for us, and at most there are only two differing opinions instead of four or five. However, once we get a basic song written, it’s still up to the two of us to record all the parts and write the accents, harmonies, and accompaniments – whether that’s composing orchestral parts, guitar solos, special/funky effects, etc. Getting through all those steps can be really time-consuming, but when I hear the finished product, I’m always really proud of what we’ve accomplished, and impressed at how much it doesn’t sound like just two people.

ZD: What has been the raddest moment of your life?

MS: Wow, it’s really tough to pick a single moment… but some highlights have been a) hearing our first studio track when it was finished, b) hearing Noctura on the radio for the first time, and c) checking my email to find a message from Dan Certa (producer/engineer/badass) saying he’d help produce our album.

ZD: What has been the most embarrassing moment of your life?

MS: Something tells me the most embarrassing moment of my life probably has yet to come, but I remember being pretty embarrassed one day when I was still living at home. I came home with a date to find that our dogs had gotten into the dirty laundry and carried dozens of pairs of dirty underwear through the doggy door and scattered them around the back yard.

ZD: What can fans expect to find on your debut album once it’s released?

MS: Fans can expect to hear a couple familiar tracks, along with several new songs. We’ve got some heavier stuff (we’re now armed with a 7-string guitar!) as well as some tracks that are more on the delicate side. We are even toying with the idea of a cover song… but whether or not one of those appears will have to be a surprise. :) I do feel like our newer writing has started to carve out more of a unique sound for us, so hopefully listeners will pick up on that, too.

ZD: Which line from one of your songs best describes you?

MS: Eek, most of my lyrics are terribly depressing, and I’m generally a pretty happy (albeit cynical and sarcastic) person… so I’m going to have to borrow some lyrics from Fiona Apple: “Be kind to me, or treat me mean – I’ll make the most of it, I’m an extraordinary machine.”

Noctura's RocketHub project has ended with excellent results.

The "Noctura's Debut Album" project on RocketHub has finished! And it has finished with excellent and positive results. With the help of all the fans, the guys have triplicated their goal easily, accumulating $ 1,775 in only one month!

The results were: 14 fans will recieve a free copy of the album when it releases; 10 fans will have a Noctura t-shirt ; 2 fans will have a bonus 2nd CD with all the album songs in raw demo format, as they were recorded right after being written ; 8 fans will be mentioned in their album's liner notes, and finally, 4 fans will have exclusive streams of album track clips right after they're finished.

We'd like to congratulate the guys for this. Keep rocking!

RocketHub have written an interesting article about the band and they talked with Mandy

Indiana based rock duo Noctura (Mandy Suiter & Jeremy Roche) launched their music project on RocketHub and cranked their promo strategy to 11. The result - they hit their goal in just under two days and are still picking up Fuelers excited to see how far they will exceed their original target. Noctura doesn't play many live shows - and has been focusing their efforts online to build their audience. I became curious to know more, and reached out to Mandy to ask a few questions about the Noctura album project - as well as the crowdfunding campaign behind it:

1. Tell us a little about how this record and the songs came about? What is the inspiration for you and Jeremy to make this project happen?

We have been dreaming of doing an album for a couple years now, but haven’t had the resources to be able to afford to do it well – and we knew we didn’t want to settle on the quality. Then we got connected with Dan Certa, a phenomenal producer/engineer out of Nashville who’s helping us make this dream happen, but we haven’t had the means to invest as much into the making of this album as we’d like.

2. In regards to your crowdfunding campaign, how are reaching your out to your fans? How has the response been?

Since there are just two of us and we’re not out playing shows, we’ve relied almost exclusively on online promotion via social networking sites and our official fan forum and mailing list. The response has been absolutely amazing! Jeremy and I are still in a perpetual state of shock. We set a very low goal because we honestly weren’t sure we’d get much of anything. All of these contributions are a HUGE testament of how much our fans believe in us. For people to donate so much to a project like ours that’s just starting out and doesn’t have a lot of major successes to brag about is a huge leap of faith. It’s the best feeling in the world.

3. What has been like as a crowdfunding pioneer in the music world?

I’d have to give a lot of credit to our fans – they have really helped spread the word for us. There’s only so much Jeremy and I can do on our own to promote Noctura, and having fans that span across the globe who selflessly help us out anytime we need anything is the #1 tool in our arsenal. As for the crowdfunding idea itself, I think it’s a fantastic concept. It’s perfect for projects like ours, where the artists have a real desire to share their craft but have some financial roadblocks keeping them from the goal.

4. What advice would you give to other Creatives looking to crowdfund their projects?

I would say the best advice is to just be honest with all your potential supporters and let them know exactly what you’re hoping to accomplish with the contributions. Also, I think you should make sure the rewards you offer are things your fans would actually want. For us, the pre-order of the album made the most sense for the basic contribution, up to greater things like being mentioned in our album’s liner notes for the larger amounts. I don’t think there’s a cooler way for someone to show their stock in a piece of art than having their name on it. Of course, we are offering some rewards for super-high level donations, like writing a song with someone’s name in it, which could be pretty tricky – we’re kind of hoping no one donates that much! And yes, if anyone donates $10,000, we will have your baby (limit 1).

"We are finally in the process of recording our debut album! As you can imagine, it's a long process when there are only two of us working on things. Additionally, we have painfully minimal equipment which is making things rather difficult.

After the amazing and nice interview with Jeremy, Noctura Fansite had the great pleasure to have another amazing and nice intierview, this time with Mandy Suiter!. Mandy who has an incredible voice and does vocals, piano and programming in Noctura, answered our questions. Thank you so much for you time Mandy! We love you!

- NF: How do you feel making a debut album?

~ Mandy: I am SO excited! We've been dreaming of doing this for a long time now.

- NF: How do you think the people and the fans will react to the album?

~ Mandy: I really hope everyone likes it. I feel like we're getting better and better and writing songs, so I'm hoping the fans who like our old demo stuff will recognize all the progress we've made.

- NF: How would you characterize the genre of Noctura?

~ Mandy: I wish I knew! We have been called everything from pop, to gothic rock, to modern rock, to metal. I don't even know what those genres mean, so it's hard to say for sure... but I think we're somewhere under the rock umbrella.

- NF: Although you guys don't have the album in stores yet, months ago you had to publish an online store with your tracks, T-shirts and more stuff, because lots of fans were asking for one, what do you think about it? How does it feel?

~ Mandy: I was really surprised when people started asking for t-shirts since Noctura has never performed live! But I think it's awesome and we're really grateful for all the purchases made in the store, since all the money goes to helping us record more music!

- NF: When did you start to play the piano?

~ Mandy: We got an old upright piano when I was around 7 or 8 years old. One day, I sort of accidentally discovered I could play by ear, and at that point I immediately had a new favorite hobby! It's pretty funny, actually... neither Jeremy nor I know anything about music theory or even how to read music. This makes for really interesting conversations when we're trying to communicate new ideas to each other.

- NF: What is your favorite brand of pianos?

~ Mandy: Hehe... pretty much any that are big, shiny, and in tune. :)

- NF: What do you think about all the fans of Noctura out there?

~ Mandy: I am in love with all of them! Seriously, I am so grateful for all the support we've gotten from everyone. I don't know how far our little journey will go, but I am so happy to have so many enthusiastic, awesome friends along for the ride.

The random ones...

- NF: Energy drink or coffee?

~ Mandy: Ew, neither... can I go with tea?

- NF: When you were a little girl, did you have a platonic love?

~ Mandy: If you're referring to a childhood crush, the answer is yes! Little Stevi and I were actually married when I was 5 years old. I think the relationship turned sour, though, when he refused to let me drive his Power Wheels.

- NF: What do you prefer for a Saturday night? A good movie with snacks at home or a cookout?

~ Mandy: I love cookouts when the weather is nice (but not hot!), but I also love chilling out at home and watching a good movie, too. As long it's not scary, because I'm a wuss. :)

- Noctura Fans: It’s hard for you have to record drums and guitars?

~ Jeremy: Time consuming, and we lack some equipment, MONEY!!!! It’s easy to play parts.

- NF: Is obvious that you enjoy playing both instruments, but which one do you prefer more?

~ Jeremy: Usually guitar but some of the time I love the drums.

- NF: Which is the guitar of your dreams?

~ Jeremy: Haven’t found the guitar of my dreams yet. I love a lot of guitars but I can always find something I would do different.

- NF: How do you feel recording a debut album?

~ Jeremy: Album- I’m excited!!! we have a great guy working with us. I wish it was completed but I don’t want to rush things. If we don’t take our time it will sound rushed.

- NF: What is your vision of the album?

~ Jeremy: flying kittens!!! No I’m kidding. Not sure about this one.

- NF: Which are your principal inspirations when you make music?

~ Jeremy: Trying to feel a song. Do you ever get goosebumps hearing music? That is what we want in all of our songs. Also just hoping most people like it.

- NF: What do you think about all the fans who are buying Noctura stuff online?

~ Jeremy: Makes me feel like an accomplished musician. Although it is also very strange that we haven’t played a show, this I can’t wait for!

Noctura is a two-person female-fronted rock band based in a small town just west of Indianapolis. The duo, Mandy and Jeremy, began playing together in 2007 and have since then built a tremendously loyal and enthusiastic fan base through organic referrals to their music on MySpace. What started out as simple demo postings for friends and family spread like wildfire to hundreds of thousands of friends and fans who would regularly visit the site to listen to Noctura’s music. In no time at all, several songs were picked up by a local radio station, which then passed them on to affiliate stations across the country and served to exponentially expand the Noctura fan base.

Noctura’s sound can be described as a contrast of high gain guitar tones mixed with melodic vocals and symphonic components. Their sound has a distinct commercial appeal in line with other popular rock band such as Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed. Lead singer Mandy sang and played the piano as a child, but did not discover her talent for songwriting until she was 21. Jeremy is a multi-talented musician who has the ability to skillfully play both the guitar and drums. The pair’s unique talents have allowed them to collaborate in a way that executes each of their musical visions. Noctura draws its inspiration in part from guitar players like Christ Broderick of Meagdeth and Jeff Loomis of Nevermore along with songwriters and performers “who evoke real emotion in their listeners” to include Flyleaf and Within Temptation.

To date, Noctura has officially released nine tracks, but has several others written and in production. As the group looks to release its first album later this year, Mandy said “we don’t want to have any filler songs,” and have enlisted the help of esteemed producer Dan Certa who has worked with a host of amazing artists to include We Are The Fallen, Kelly Clarkson, Hana Pestle and others. Mandy gave us the background scoop on Noctura’s latest release called “Don’t Save Me” (available in the jukebox now). She said: “Don’t Save Me is about having someone in your life who idly sits by and watches when your world comes crashing down instead of helping you. It’s basically saying that person is just waiting for you to fail and is almost pleased when you do, yet you still romanticize and tell yourself they care, even when their actions prove otherwise. I think a lot of us have had those relationships, whether it’s a friend, significant other, relative, etc.”
From a fan perspective Noctura is a great mix of many popular bands. As one fan wrote in a recent iTunes review: “It’s like they have taken the best parts of well known bands like Evanescence and Within Temptation and put it together to form their own sound that is the greatest drug ever … I am addicted and anyone who gives them a listen will have to agree or unless they’re deaf … if that is the case I’m sorry for them.” The question is, do you agree?
